[Day 12] Unclogging the Toilet With Boiling Water, Another Slow Day
A slow day. We stayed in the campground all day, so this was another pitstop day similar to our day in Washington DC.
It started off with a nice toilet clog. Kids do that. 🙂 But also, our Holiday Rambler has a funky pipe design under the toilet that makes it easy to clog.
Our last RV was a Coachman, and it had a straight pipe from the toilet down into the black tank. Pretty much impossible to clog. This Holiday Rambler, though, has a twisted pipe setup into the black tank. It also appears to have this ledge in there, almost like a 90-degree hook. And the result is that it isn’t too difficult to clog the pipe with toilet paper.
I first used a stick that I found outside to try to push the stuff through. All I really successfully did was ram it in there more. 🙂
So, I utilized the old boiling water trick. It is pretty simple. Bring a pot of water to a boil then pour it down the toilet. The idea is that it will dissolve the stuff and allow the pipe to flow again. It works, however it may take a few pots of water to do it. And, no, you won’t need to worry about it hurting your pipes.
Anyway, the rest of the day was me taking care of some business while the family hung out.
Tomorrow, heading up into Canada.
