[Day 5] Our First Actual Destination Of The Trip: Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian
Day 5 was our first actual, completely-for-fun, excursion of the trip. And finally, after having been in DC multiple times in my life and never going, we visited the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum out at Dulles.
I have visited the Air & Space museum on the Mall several times, but never been out to the one at Dulles because of the logistics of getting out there. But, for the first time, I was now in DC with a car. 🙂 We had never towed a vehicle with us until now.
So, we hopped in the CR-V and drove out to Dulles.
This museum is awesome because it contains so many planes with known history.
For me personally, seeing Space Shuttle Discovery was the highlight of the place. I had seen Atlantis at Cape Caniveral, but Discovery was sort of the flagship, at least in my eyes. Plus, the fact that it was sitting on it’s gear naturally like that and that we could get so close to it was really cool.
If you’re in the DC area and can make it out to Dulles, I highly recommend you check this place out.
Even better… it is free! Supported by your tax dollars.
